well..they didnt officially announce the dragon festival till just a few days before its start..and I stillt hink that was cause so many were complaining that it looked like Anet was trying to skip the festival.
the official chineese new year is Feb 7th -15th...so I would look for the Canthian New Year to be announnced for either this coming weekend or the weekend of the 15th.

So since they always announce events on Tuesday, look for it either on the 4th or 11th I guess.
Dang I miss the scribe, he was always good for these kinds of things. :/

Almost positive a Canthan New Year planned
If a Canthan New Year is not planned, then I'm very shocked. There's a stealth update that happened on Lunar Fortunes from last year. I have a stack of Lunar Fortunes that I just didn't feel like opening and they are now listed as "Lunar Fortune [Year of the Pig]".
This heavily implies that they planned to have different fortunes to be handed out depending on the year.
I think that I must be the only person with leftover Lunar Fortunes so I'm the only person that noticed.

Well figured we'd read about it tomorrow in the guild announcement / login in screen.
Hoping to at least have a go at the 9 rings soon.

maybe, since it is the year of the rat, ANet will have a fun plague event...
since during the Mideval times... rats spread plague. It'll be like the beta massacre staring Gwen the Flamestress... D

All I can say is that the even will end in disappointment if they don't give us a hat I can dye. There's not been a mask as good as the Dragon Mask since it came out.
I will be glad to see the short return of Racing and DA.

Yes, this year's festivities feature the "Bring out your Dead!" minigame! Swarms of rats infest Shing Jea, and cause "Plague" if they touch you. "Plague" kills you in 15 seconds. Players must gather the bodies of dead players and deposit them at the pyres in town to earn points. Touching dead players also causes "Plague." Rats earn points when a player dies. Rats always win.

Wiki doesn't mention DA as being a New Year event.

You seem to forget how the pig wasn't easily obtainable "at first" (and how people wasted tons of money to get it).

Don't forget about the mini greased lightnings!!!
yeah I can see it now the beginning of the event:
WTB mini rat 100k +40e
Then at the end:
WTS mini rat 250g
But I really hope they bring back the new year and maybe a second round getting mini greased lightnings

Yeah. The whole mini-pig shenanigans put "Q" into "QQ".
Was a good laugh though.

I've never played during an "event" before.
What happens? If you just log-in and play will you get some kind of bonus?
Different missions or the drops are related to the holiday?
Sorry, at work & can't check wikki.
Is that how you get hats?

depends on the event. On an event theirs special quests, activities and aghmes which can earn you prizes. On the Finale a NPC will come to a town every 3 hrs (i think) and he will give out the hat.
Those thinking of 9 rings btw i dont think they had 9 rings game on this event. Checks avatar....um yesi deffentially remember a pig in a trebucket
